User Impact: Users may be unable to join Skype Meeting Broadcasts.

Current status: We've identified propagation delays associated with the process of reverting a recent update resulted in impact. Upon reverting the change our rebalancing processes weren't updated quickly enough, resulting in impact. We're working to confirm mitigation with impacted tenants.

Scope of impact: This issue may affect any user attempting to join live broadcasts may be impacted.

User Impact: Users may have been unable to start chats with federated Skype for Business users.

Final status: We've reverted the impacting update and confirmed with affected users in multiple regions that the issue is resolved.

Scope of impact: This issue may have affected any Teams user attempting to start a chat with a federated Skype for Business user.

Root cause: A standard update to the infrastructure facilitating Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business federation unexpectedly resulted in impact.

Banner Self Service Scheduled Maintenance

 - Only Self service system will be interrupted during this period.

Details

Title: Some users may be unable to connect to Microsoft 365 services

User Impact: Users may have been unable to connect to Microsoft 365 services.

More info: For SharePoint Online, the impact was limited to new user sign in. Existing user sessions were not impacted by this event.

Most Microsoft 365 commercial services were not affected by this issue, and the problem predominantly affected Microsoft 365 consumer services.

Final status: After rolling back the change we've confirmed that impact has been mitigated.

Scope of impact: Any user attempting to authenticate or login may have been unable to access Microsoft 365 services, though our analysis suggests that most users were able to access Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online and SharePoint Online as expected.

End time: Friday, May 22, 2020, at 8:12 PM UTC

Root cause: A recent update impacted user authentication and login for multiple Microsoft 365 services.

Next steps:

- We're reviewing our update testing procedures to better understand why the offending change resulted in impact so that we can prevent similar issue from happening in the future.

We'll publish a post-incident report within five business days.

Resolved: ITS is investigating reports that student related self-service activities and Banner related student actions are erroring out.
