Since the name and purpose of your department is information technology services, it is ironic and infuriating that you can't communicate to the 1,000s of users (read customers) what is going on. If the previous commenter is correct and power has been restored, why in the world was this information not communicated to us accompanied by some indication of progress or lack thereof) in getting e-mail back on line? Or is Sunday a day of rest?
Thanks for restoring service and my apologies for the sarcasm in the last sentence of the previous post. I still believe, however, that ITS can and should do a better job of informing the UDM community of the status of efforts to fix IT problems. Otherwise, what is the point of creating this blog? This is said w/ an understanding that you are short-handed and under-capitalized. You still can tear yourselves away from efforts to fix problems long enough to post brief status reports on this blog.
Although power did make it up late yesterday, a number of services have been restored and are still in the process.
A large data center that has just experienced a power outage takes time to properly bring up to ensure no data loss and to repair new issues that arise.
Unlike a home or small computing environment restoring the multitude of services is not as simple as flipping on 200 power switches and walking away. At UDM there is a mainframe, hundreds of network switches, wifi access points, physical and virtual servers, video and telephone services all that need to be returned into service to empower 1000's to fulfill our University mission.
Some services will be up later tonight, others in the morning and some after the start of business (8:30 am).
For any server that requires warranty or 3rd party repair, service calls will be initiated as quickly as possible.
Known services up at this time -voicemail -Blackboard -student email -communigate email -security cameras -IT and Facility helpdesk systems -www.udmercy.edu (and supporting sites) -it.udmercy.edu -detroittitans.com -dns -dhcp
Known services that will be addressed Monday -APECS -TitanConnect (Banner) -TitanTV Channel's 60 and 61 -AC Lab Server
If there are specific items you are interested in knowing about, please post to this blog and we will try to let you know the current status of that particular service.

It does not appear the power will be up today, no ETA available at this time.
It's been 24 hours since your last posting. Any word on when power may be back up and how long thereafter e-mail service will be restored?
Power was restored to campus yesterday. Any update on when the e-mail system will be operational?
