Scheduled Power Outage

Please be advised all IT services on the MCN campus will be brought down this morning while the facilities dept makes adjustments to the campus electrical feed.  Once the outage is clear, all services will be restored except the cf podiums which will remain offline until we return in January.

We anticipate core services back online by 8:30 am and all other services by 11:00 am.

McNichols Campus Power Outage - Systems Brought Offline

Just a quick reminder that due to the scheduled power outage non-critical systems will be brought down on Wednesday and critical systems will start to come offline at 6:00 am.  Once power has been provided to the Fisher building, ITS will begin the process to restore access to services.  This may take up to 3 hours to fully complete.

 

Please note all podiums will be offline and may remain offline until we return in 2015.

Major Upgrade to the TitanConnect Reporting Database System

The data loads are continuing, with the Student load running through the evening and then the Finance load starting right after that.  We will inform people as each system becomes available.

12/09/14 - There have been issues with the loading of Finance data to the ODS. At this time there is no ET for the resolutions. Once an assessment of the issues are completed more posts will be forth coming.

14:30 status
Finance data load is progressing.

Reviewing possible performance enhancements as the loads are running slowly.

18:25 status
Finance data is still loading - working with vendor support for solutions.

3:00 status -  Financial data load has completed
 Note:  MFT_FUND_HIERARCHY_FISCAL error during load, and trouble ticket is open.

6:42 status - General data load has completed
Human resources has started.

10:00 - ODS Prod access to Discoverer has been restored
NOTE: DATA HAS ONLY BEEN PARTIALLY LOADED but reporting on Student and Finance is available.

14:10 - HR data has loaded
THE DATABASE WILL NOW BE TAKEN OFF LINE to apply performance and patch fixes.

15:40 - The patches have been applied. The MFT_FUND_HIERARCHY_FISCAL which failed during the Financial data load is being rerun.

7:00 - Financial Aid is Loading - should be completed before noon
This is the last data load.

10:50 - Financial Aid data is loaded.

4:00 p.m. - All data has been loaded and is now available for reporting.  Be cautious and check out the data.  Some load issues have been reported with Student and Finance and are being addressed as ITS is informed.

Major Upgrade to the TitanConnect Reporting Database System

The upgrade has been progressing, and is now in the "Load Data" step.  This was attempted earlier, but disk space problems kept it from finishing.  We are now past the point where the error occurred and are optimistic that this time it will complete successfully.  An update will be added to the Blog before the end of business today, December 8, 2014.

A major upgrade to the TitanConnect Reporting Database system, the Operational Data Store (ODS) will begin after normal business hours today, December 3, 2014 (at approximately 6:00 p.m.).

This upgrade will take UDM from version 8.1 to version 8.4.1 and necessitates a complete reload of data from the TitanConnect production database to the ODS. 

The upgrade and reload will take 4 - 5 days to complete, so the TitanConnect Report Viewer and TitanConnect Report Writer will not be available for use until Sunday, December 7 and may not be available until sometime Monday, December 8.

A notice will be posted on the UDM Blog, as will the availability of the TitanConnect Reporting system when the upgrade is completed.

Internet Slowdown and Slowness from Law & Dental Campuses

We are currently experiencing a network slowdown between the McNichols campus and the Internet.  This started around 7:39 am. 

 

Dorms are unaffected by this but the rest of campus will experience slowness while we work to resolve this ASAP.

 

Communications from Law and Dental campuses to the MCN campus (for TitanConnect) will be slower than normal during this period.

Today, Nov. 17, at 4:46 p.m. main Internet pipe for Dorms Internet services went down. At this time Internet access for Dorms is supplied by backup line, with lower capacity. Users may experience slower service during outage of the main service. We don’t have information on how long this disturbance may last.

To confirm the obvious, with the cancellation of the planned outage tomorrow morning, cable TV service will remain only and available for your viewing pleasure.

Please be advised that due to the scheduled temporary power outage for the Student Center building tomorrow, Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, University cable TV service will be unavailable during this time.  The satellite dishes which feed the University’s cable TV system are located on the roof of the Student Center and require power.

 

Also, the ITS Computer Lab in the Student Center basement will be closed until the power outage is complete.

 

Once power is restored, cable TV service and the ITS Computer Lab will be available.

Dental IT Services Down

All servers on the Dental campus are temporarily down due to the effects from this evenings storm.  Services will be restored sometime after 7:00 am or as soon as is possible.

 

Dorms Internet service slow-down

As of  7:06 p.m. this evening, we lost the main feed to the Dorms network, affecting Internet service performance. According to our ISP, this problem should be solved by midnight; at that time Dorms Internet service will be able to work with full capacity. Access to resources on University network are not affected by
this technical problem.

The @udmercy.edu domain has been blacklisted since this morning by Verizon and Comcast.  ITS is working to clear our good name and re-establish the flow of mail between our companies.  There are likely other locations we are unaware of that are temporarily blacklisting us as well.  This situation is the result of someone giving up their email credentials to a scammer.  Please avoid sharing your information with anyone.

IT Services Related to the 5/7/14 McNichols DTE Scheduled Power Outage

Due to the scheduled DTE power outage scheduled for early tomorrow morning, various IT services will be unavailable starting as early as 5:00 pm today.

 

Blackboard and TitanConnect will come offline sometime after midnight.

 

Once ITS is re-energized with power (estimated to be 7:30 am), services will be brought back online.  Critical services will be brought up as quickly as possible and it may take some services up to 4 hours to be brought back fully online.

Power outage - McNichols Campus - UPDATED

Due to a power outage the McNichols Campus is without power.  This is effecting all Network connectivity; TitanNet, TitanConnect, email, voicemail and those off campus trying to access these services. We will have temporary power shortly but DTE will not have us fully operational for several hours.

UPDATE: 5/6/14 - Most services are now back online, however we are currently being powered by generators.  No ETA from DTE is available at this time.

Power Outage 4/26/14 - IT Services Down

Please be advised that due to the scheduled McNichols Campus power outage various IT services will go offline.

 

Law/Dent

The Law and Dental professional schools will be able to use the wireless and internet on their campuses however, access to services hosted at the McNichols campus will be down.  These services include but are not limited to TitanConnect, Banner, Blackboard, WWW.  Card access will remain online and available but someone with a newly issued card (within the past few days) may experience some access issues.

 

 

McAuley

Access from the McAuley Health Care center will be down during this time as well.

 

 

McNichols and Core Services

All production environments will be taken down on Saturday at 6:00 am.  If you discover you are still able to access services after that point in time, please note the services eventually be taken down.  This will include TitanConnect, Exchange, Banner, WWW, Cascade, all WIFI and all internet services.

 

For McNichols employees, all non-production environments will be taken offline as early as Friday, April 25, 2014 at 12:00 pm. 

 

Also, all podiums in the C&F building will be brought offline Friday, April 25 at 1:00 pm as well.

 

 

Restoring Services

We have been informed power to the ITS data center will be restored around 10:30 am though, this is not a guaranteed time.  Once power is made available to the ITS data center, priority production services will be brought online.  It will take around three hours to complete the power up of these services.

Due to a compromised account generating a lot of bad messages, all email delivery has been delayed.  The bad messages are now being cleared out and the compromised account has been locked down.  Reminder to all, never give out your credentials.  Good messages should be delivered within the next two hours.

We received additional software fixes for our Blackboard server. To apply those, Blackboard application has to be shutdown, resulting in service outage.

Blackboard test invoking issue – Fix available / Installation scheduled for Thursday Mar.13 at 7:30 a.m.



As previously published here, new version of Blackboard software causes system error at the attempt to start a test/quiz. We received software fix for this problem which we plan on installing on Thursday, March 13, starting at 7:30 a.m. This operation requires Blackboard restart resulting in service outage. Expected outage time is up to 30 minutes. Please close your session and log out to avoid possible loss of work before 7:30 a.m.

UDMSecure WIreless Issue

UDMSecure wireless is not currently resolving udmercy.edu domains.  Access to udmercy.edu sites and services is affected.  Please check this blogs for updates.

Issue with Blackboard testing – possible short Blackboard outage on Wednesday Mar. 12 starting at 7:30 a.m.



As published in the Blackboard announcement, we have test invoking problem in our Blackboard service since upgrade to new release of the software. Blackboard Tech Support is still working on the solution and they informed us that the fix may be ready for installation as soon as Wednesday morning. We still expect confirmation that this fix is developed and tested.

Having in mind that problem with invoking test causes lot of trouble to our students and faculty and impacts predefined schedule, we’d like to install this software patch as soon as we get it.

Please continue to follow Blackboard announcements and this site for the latest updates. Installation of the software fix requires Blackboard services shutdown as usual and, if we get that fix in time, we plan on applying it Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. with expected service outage up to 30 minutes. To make your work safe, please close your session and log out of Blackboard before 7:30 a.m.

Spam/Fishing Email - "Irregular Login Attempts" Do Not

The latest email scam/spam to effect the University community.  Notice that it was not sent from a UDM ListServe.  One of the quickest ways to determine if an email is legit is to look at the email address that sent it.  

The ITS Department will not contact you via email for such matters.  If you are in doubt call the Help Desk or check this blog.  

Should you receive this email mark it is junk/spam and delete immediately.

UDM Blacklisted

The University’s email server appears to be blacklisted by one spam filtering site at this time.  The IT staff are working to clear our good name so that all mail will flow smoothly.

 

Blacklisting is a clear result of users given out their credentials (knowingly or unknowingly) to people who then spam many others.  Servers detect high volume coming from certain addresses and then move to block all content – whether legit or spam – from hitting their domain until action is taken to clear the issue.
