Title: Some users unable to receive Audio Conferencing or Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) calls
User Impact: Users may have been unable to receive PSTN calls.
More info: Inbound PSTN Calls, inbound Audio Conferencing calls and inbound Voice Applications calls were affected. In cases where the calls were processed, users may have experienced a delay of up to 30 seconds before receiving PSTN calls. Users with either the Direct Routing and/or Microsoft Calling Plans were impacted.
Final status: Following our system log analysis, we've identified a subsection of networking infrastructure that dropped below our manageable service performance thresholds, preventing users from receiving PSTN calls. We've rerouted traffic to an alternate subsection of networking infrastructure and confirmed this remediated impact.
Scope of impact: Impact was specific to a subset of users who were served through the affected infrastructure.
Start time: Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 4:30 PM UTC
End time: Friday, July 17, 2020, at 2:38 AM UTC
Root cause: A subsection of networking infrastructure dropped below our manageable service performance thresholds, preventing users from receiving PSTN calls.
Next steps:
- We're analyzing performance data on the affected systems to determine why they dropped below service performance thresholds and identify ways to prevent this problem from happening again.
This is the final update for the event.
