Happy Thanksgiving

The University is on official Thanksgiving break.  While we take the time to give thanks, we will be watching the systems from remote locations.  If issues arise, please let us know via this blog and we’ll work to resolve them.

Converging into the TC Portal Announcement


As previously announced, UDM’s legacy Communigate e-mail solution ( will soon be retired and in its place will be the integrated TitanConnect portal e-mail solution (


The TitanConnect portal e-mail solution provides students with an  An account may be a more attractive address to use particularly once you have graduated and choose to continue to use your University e-mail account.


Students with legacy e-mail accounts who would like to centralize their e-mail on the TitanConnect portal may “marry” their account to their new e-mail account.  All new mail sent to a students account will be directed to land into the students TitanConnect portal e-mail account.


This is a one-time process.


The legacy e-mail address will remain in existence to ensure mail sent to the old address is redirected to the TitanConnect portal e-mail inbox.


Existing e-mail stored in legacy account may be transferred into the TitanConnect portal e-mail account using Communigates “redirect” feature.


After marrying an account together, it is strongly recommended to establish a Communigate redirect rule just in case new messages mistakenly land in the legacy e-mail inbox.


To perform the linking/marrying process you must know in advance:

1.       Your TitanConnect user code and password

2.       Your Communigate user code and password


If you do not know your TitanConnect password, go to and click on the “forgot password” feature.  Answer your own security questions to reset your password.


If you do not know your legacy Communigate password you will need to stop by the ITS Helpdesk in the Fisher building, Room 230, during Helpdesk hours of Mon-Thurs 8:30 am to 7:00 pm or Fri 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and present your UDM student ID to have this password reset.  The Helpdesk is closed on University holidays.

YouTube Performance Feedback

A week or two ago, ITS implemented some improved bandwidth adjustments that were believed to address the sluggishness and buffering with YouTube.  We would appreciate hearing any feedback you may have regarding the performance of YouTube on campus via wired computer or wireless.  If you can share the location and approximate time where you have had success or problems that would be Helpful to ITS.  (i.e. WIFI in the Quads at 3amish, Office in Briggs at 10:00 am,  WIFI in Student Union around 2pm ish)

Blackboard service available 11/13 4:01 p.m.

Blackboard service was restarted and it's fully operational.

We apologize for the inconvenience.


Blackboard short maintenance scheduled for 11/13 at 4.p.m.

There is a problem identified in Blackboard service that may cause slow response. This situation requires restart of the services, resulting in short service outage (app. 3 minutes).
This restart is scheduled for 4 p.m. It is highly recommendable that users log out Blackboard during this outage.

Calihan Data and Voice outages 11/12/2009

Due to construction there will be outages in Calihan for both the phone and data networks. The west side of the 1st floor will experience both data and voice outages throughout the day. These are the same outages that were planned for 11/11/2009, however, due to complications with the closet move they were unable to be completed until today. Please check back here for updates and completion status.

Exchange May Be Down

ITS staff received automatic notification of problems with Exchange but have not been able to verify this.  If you are an Exchange user and experiencing issues, please respond to this post to let us know what you are experiencing.  Thank you.


Weblink is Working Well Under New Secured Environment

Additional security measures are in place and Weblink is working fine. This should prevent further virus attacks on this server. Thank you, ITS Dept.

Weblink will be unavailable for a few minutes 10:05 AM Friday

ITS is taking measures to prevent further virus infection of the Weblink server. This will require an update of Weblink - will be back online in just a few minutes.

Exchange Mail Problem

We have had reports since Thursday afternoon that Exchange mail is not delivering in a timely way, and Outlook Web Access (remote Email) is not working, or is working VERY slowly. We are rebooting the Exchange server this morning, and we will address any other issues as we find them. Please report Exchange mail problems to the helpdesk at 3-1500.

The email server was offline this morning. ITS staff was able to bring it back on line this morning at approximately 7:30 am. All inbound email for the student domain was cached and will be delivered throughout the day.

Network Repairs - Briggs 2nd Floor - 11/6/09

This Friday, November 6, 2009, there will be a short network outage at 8:30 am and at 12:00 pm for the entire Briggs building while ITS cuts over network traffic for expansion work to accommodate the renovations taking place on the 2nd floor of Briggs.


Between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm, the 2nd floor of Briggs offices will be without access while the 2nd floor network closet is enhanced to accommodate the work taking place in Briggs 210/211.


Briggs labs 245 and 247 will continue to have access during this time.


WIFI will be available throughout the 2nd floor during this time as well.

We have found the problem on Titannet. Repairs are being made right now. The H: G: Z: and other network drives may go down, but repairs will be done before 8:45. Please try a reboot if you cannot access all network resources. Let the Helpdesk know if you have problems after this time.

We are experiencing some issues with our Titannet domain this morning. We are tracking down a hardware failure, and in the mean time you may see some error messages about TITANNET not being available. You may not be able to log into Titannet, and you may lose access to G: H: and other network drives. If you cannot login to the Titannet domain, try using the UDM username and change the THIRD LINE to your local machine. The Helpdesk (3-1500) can help you with that UDM account's password.

Apecs and Weblink are back up - 9:13 AM 11/2/09

The mainframe environment APECS and Weblink are back up now. ITS Dept.

UNISYS mainframe had problems - required reboot

The UNISYS mainframe had problems and required a reboot. APECS and Weblink will be up in the next few minutes. ITS Dept.

TitanNet is online 11/02 8:20 a.m.

Problem with log-in to the network using TitanNet system is solved. If you started using your computer before 8:20 a.m. and don't have all the resources you usually have (G drive etc.), please log out and log back in to attach these resources.

Main log-in system, TitanNet is out of order. TitanNet users will not be able to use all of their resources as long as this system is down. ITS is working to solve this problem. Please check this blog again for updated information. When TitanNet system return to online status, users will need to log-out and log back in to establish connection with required resources.
