Blackboard system upgrade - Tue 12/20 07:30 a.m.

This is advance notice that Blackboard system software is scheduled for upgrade, starting 07:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20.
This software upgrade is going to cause outage in services, expected to take up to 120 minutes. Users are strongly advised to close their work and log out of Blackboard before 7:30 a.m. to avoid possible loss of data.

If access to Blackboard returns SSL error...

If you are using TitanConnect portal to access Blackboard or your bookmark points to https://knowledge.udmercy.edu, you may experience error saying that Blackboard Security Certificate is revoked. This issue is going to be fixed with planned restart of Blackboard services tomorrow morning. In meantime, please use direct access to Blackboard using following link: http://knowledge.udmercy.edu. Microsoft Internet Explorer does not produce this error.

Blackboard service restart scheduled 12/15 7:30 a.m.

Today we experienced problem with our Security Certificate. We acquired and installed new certificate but, to activate new credentials, Blackboard service need a restart. This is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 a.m. While this restart will cause just a brief service outage, users are still advised to close the session with Blackboard at that time to avoid possible loss of data.

An SSL Certificate Issue has currently disabled SSL connections to E-mail (POP3, IMAP) and the TitanConnect portal. Service will be restored shortly.

Resident Network Operating Very Slowly

We're dealing with another unplanned resident bandwidth issue again that may be the source of the comments below. We understand it is Exam week - this is going to suck tonight - but you have options to use the labs and other university WIFI bandwidth around campus. The provider will be out first thing in the AM to repair the situation. We'll see if we can resolve it before then but as it stands now were operating at 20% of the capacity we had been at.

TitanConnect SSL Upgrades Completed

The announced security certificate upgrades to the TitanConnect portal have been completed.

If you use older versions of client software, older operating systems or have a session active during the upgrade you may asked you to confirm the installation of the new SSL certificate. Please confirm/accept the installation of the new SSL certificate.

Exchange Server - BlackBerry

The ongoing Exchange Email server issue is definitely affecting our BlackBerry users in Athletics. In addition to mail being delayed significantly, CONTACTS are disappearing from your BlackBerry devices. All reports so far say that in MICROSOFT OUTLOOK on the office computers, contacts are still there. If you need help logging into Titannet on your office computer, please contact the Helpdesk.

We are currently experiencing Email Exchange outage. The ITS department is currently working on correcting the issue. The blog will be updated once the problem is resolved

SSL Certificate Upgrades

The SSL certificate replacement was started this morning on TitanConnect(http://tc.udmercy.edu) services. Http(web), ldap(directory) and secure POP3(mail) services have been upgraded. If you use older versions of client software, older operating systems or have a long running sessions that was active during the upgrade you may asked you to confirm the installation of the new SSL certificate. Please confirm/accept the installation of the new SSL certificate.

All other services will be upgraded tomorrow, December 8th.

TitanConnect Self Service Connection

The TitanConnect Self Service connection was receiving "Page Not Found" errors from the TitanConnect Portal link this morning. This has now been corrected, but there may be some lingering issues.

1. If you are still logged into the TitanConnect Portal, just clicking on the link for TitanConnect Self Service may give you a signon screen that asks for a UserID and PIN. You can enter your "T" (T in CAPS) number or your E-mail account ID (all CAPS) and PIN (birthdate = mmddyy)

OR

2. Logout of the TitanConnect Portal and then Log back in. Clicking on the link may then flash the TitanConnect Self Service page and then give you a "Page Not Found". Exit that window and try again. If that doesn't work Logout and start over again.

Exchange Email Outage (Closed issue)

Today around 1:00 pm one of the Exchange mail store had dis-mount error resulting in certain Exchange users unable to connect to the Exchange server to send or receive email. This was corrected at 3:00pm. Once the mail store was remounted email begin to move freely. No mail was lost during the downtime.

Blackboard service restart scheduled for Monday, 11/28 at 7:30 a.m.

Service is going to be restarted at 7:30 a.m. causing short outage of Blackboard operation. While this whole operation should not take more than a few minutes, users are still advised to log out at that time.

TitanNet G & H Drives and Access at Corktown

Due to a power outage on the Corktown campus, many TitanNet G & H drives may not be reachable.  As you may know, even though users access from the McNichols and Law campuses the majority of stored files are physically situated on a server at the Corktown campus.  In addition, access to TitanNet from the Corktown campus will naturally be down while the power to the server is not available.

Early in the life of the new Blackboard software version, one issue was discovered that could have seriously inconvenience Blackboard users. Software patch required Blackboard software restart, which caused couple of minutes service outage in serving users.

Raiser's Edge Server Failure

Late this afternoon our Raiser's Edge server had a hardware failure. Parts will be in tomorrow morning (THURS 11/3). We will rebuild the server and restore the data as quickly as possible, but we're likely looking at some time Friday before the server (and Raiser's Edge) is functional again.

We learned late Thursday that one of the replacement parts was defective, and another has been ordered. We will be installing it when it arrives Friday mid-morning. Raiser's Edge will not be available until early next week.

Blackboard upgrade scheduled Mon. 11/07 7:30 a.m.

Blackboard software is scheduled for a major upgrade in the next service window, Monday Nov. 7 starting at 7:30 a.m. This software upgrade should fix number of issues encountered in the system software that is used now. Due to volume of work involving this upgrade please don't plan on using Blackboard service between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. Finish your work and log out before 7:30 a.m. to avoid possible loss of data. McAuley Clinic circuit problem ***RESOLVED

We have been monitoring the MCAuley Clinic's network connection, and there appears to be a problem with the T1 circuit. A service call has been made to the provider. They are currently testing and we'll update this blog as we hear back from them.

The circuit provider found some faulty hardware and repaired it. The circuit has been up since about 2:00PM. We will continue to monitor it, but this location should be fully restored.

LAW campus network connectivity down **UPDATED

There is a definite problem with Law School's connectivity to the rest of the university's network and to the internet. We are in the initial stages of tracking the problem and have no estimate for resolution yet.

LAW SCHOOL OUTAGE *Resolved

It looks like another possible limited POWER PROBLEM is now affecting most if not all of Law School's computer networking. We are working on this issue now.

Due to cut power to a vital network closet, the Law Clinic does not have network or internet connectivity at this time. Chris Congdon is working with the construction companies to determine how long this outage will be.

Our T1 connection between McNichols and Mcauley Health Center is not functional. Either the equipment on the ends or the circuit itself is down. We are diagnosing the hardware and will call the circuit provider if necessary.

Exchange Users - One Mail Store Down

It appear one of the larger mailstores is temporarily down.  Some but not all Exchange users are temporarily down.  The store went down sometime Saturday afternoon.  Staff have been working remotely attempting to restore it back into service.  No ETA available at this time.  All TitanConnect e-mail is working fine.

Comcast/Yahoo Mail - now functional

We've been cleared by Comcast and Yahoo, and all messages that were queued up have been delivered. Delivery of new messages is back to normal, except we may be blacklisted on one or more listing services. We will address those as we encounter them. If you receive any "bounceback" error messages when attempting to send an Email, please forward them to the Helpdesk and we will work with the receiving side to resolve them all.

Yahoo Email

Blackboard Outage - Resolved @ 8:00 am

This is a posting after the fact and for the record.

In March of this year, ITS implemented an automated process that transferred course information from the registration system within Banner into Blackboard. This process runs on a daily basis and keeps the two systems in sync.

Officially, the end of Term II occurred Saturday, April 30, 2011. The following morning at 5:00 am the automated transfer of information from Banner to Blackboard advanced to Term III but the file came across empty. This was reported to ITS early this morning and all was properly fixed by 8:00 am.

We understand many faculty are working to submit grades based upon their records in Blackboard. As of 8:00 am today, everything is working.

Should you encounter further issues related to this problem, please let ITS know using any one of the available channels - 993-1500, helpdesk@udmercy.edu, submit a ticket to http://helpdesk.udmercy.edu, chat from our it.udmercy.edu page or stop in.

For those that have not read the prior blog entry, our internet service provider had a rare outage around 10:00 pm Sunday night and restored service around 5:00 am this morning.

Internet access for all three campuses is currently offline. The issue is with the University's ISP, Merit. It is a wide spread problem affecting not only UDM. Merit Staff is working on the issue and will notify University staff once a resolution has been found.

Network connectivity between the three campuses should not be affected be this outage.

Engineering Bulding Network/Internet down 04/21 - UPDATE

The hardware failure causing the network outage in the Engineering building has been temporally fixed and access has been restored. A permanent fix will occur this evening after 5:00pm, causing a brief outage.

Engineering Bulding Network/Internet down 04/21 7:30 a.m.

Engineering computer network is disconnected from the rest of the UDM network and has no access to Internet due to hardware failure. Problem is isolated and it will be solved by replacing defective part. Expected time we hope to restore network services to Engineering building is 10 a.m. - please check this blog for updates.

Voicemail Status 4-18-11

The Voicemail System has experienced significant corruption and is currently still unusable. There is considerable work to be done to get us operational again. We have a service contract and representatives/technicians from that company are currently en route from out of state with software and solutions to get us up and running again. Currently we have no estimate of down-time, but be assured that we are working with the mentality of Emergency/Priority/ASAP.

TitanConnect Secure Imap/Pop3 Services down

The secure imap and pop3 services provided by TitanConnect are currently unavailable. Email is still available by logging into the portal at http://tc.udmercy.edu. We are working with the vendor to resolve these issues currently.

Update 3/8/2011 1:50 pm : Vendor is continuing to work on service outages.

Update 3/8/2011 3:40 pm : Begining at 5:30 pm Tuesday March 8 there will be a 30 to 45 minute service outage of all TitanConnect services to apply recommended vendor software in an attempt to restore all services.

Update 3/8/2011 5:51 pm : Software update has been completed. All services should now be operational.

Blackboard scheduled outage for Wednesday 03/07 at 7:30 a.m. - advance notice

Wednesday, 03/07, Blackboard system will be taken offline at 7:30 a.m. Blackboard system will undergo major redesign to integrate with Banner administrative system. This operation will benefit users with status of the courses and enrollments reflecting changes with much shorter lag.
ITS expects that this complex operation will take 3 hours to complete. Please check this blog for updates. Please adjust your schedule for work on Blackboard according to this.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All Blackboard users accounts will be fit with corresponding @udmercy.edu e-mail accounts. After Wednesday, all of your Blackboard generated correspondence will be delivered to your @udmercy.edu e-mail account.

Due to glitch in the system, Blackboard users experienced short outage in Blackboard services. Cause of the problem is found and resolved, and by 8:50 p.m. the Blackboard service is restored in full. We sorry for the inconvenience this outage caused the users of the system at this time.

East Quad Reported Down

Corktown Connectivity - Update

The antenna move at the Corktown Campus is complete. Access to all off campus services, including the Internet and UHC, has been restored.

Athletics BlackBerry texting issue

If you are in Athletics and you are having problems with your BlackBerry device and TEXTING, we learned of a problem this morning. It was a SPRINT service problem, and they apparently have fixed it. If you still cannot text, try pulling the battery and replacing it and try again. If you still cannot TEXT, contact the Helpdesk.

Blackboard possible login problems 01/21 8:00 p.m.

There is a report that Blackboard users can't log in to Blackboard using their Titan Connect password. The problem seems to be originated in central authentication mechanism. Blackboard users may try to log in to Blackboard using their T number (student ID) as the password. This is NOT a permanent fix; as soon as the problem with central authentication gets fixed, the only way to log in to Blackboard will be by using your TC password.

TitanConnect System Upgrade Status

The UDM Information Technology Services department has been performing a major upgrade to the TitanConnect INB, TitanConnect Self Service and other modules within the TitanConnect Port system. These upgrades began on December 26 and are continuing. All of the upgrades have been completed and a few issues are now being resolved. We expect this to be completed today or tomorrow, January 3, 2011.
