TitanConnect Finance Upgrades

Please be advised starting at 6:00 am on Saturday, December 14, 2013 the
TitanConnect Banner Finance module will be upgraded to the latest version.
While the upgrades are in progress, employees will be prevented from working
on purchase requisitions or any other transactions to allow the upgrade to
be successfully completed.

For the first two hours of the upgrade, student registration will be
temporarily unavailable, however online payments will continue to be
accepted.

The entire outage is expected to last until 12:00 pm.  For status updates

The Architecture WIFI project begins today and will last through 12/16/13.  If you are experiencing a WIFI outage in this location, that is the reason for it.  Some users may find bleed from the Library or Briggs building but no gaurentee of the quality of service.

To do a necessary system upgrade, ITS will need to take the Banner production INB servers offline tomorrow, 12-05-2013, 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.

This will ONLY affect TitanConnect INB

All other services will remain online, including TitanConnect Self Service (Student Registration, etc.), TitanConnect Portal, E-mail, Blackboard, etc.

The ITS Blog will be updated when the upgrade is complete.

Please be advised that starting at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 (the day before Thanksgiving) the ITS department will be performing maintenance to the TitanConnect Portal and Email system.  Blackboard, WWW and all other systems will remain online and available during this outage.

All incoming email will be queued and delivered once the system is available.  (Exchange users will be unaffected by this temporary outage.)

We anticipate the work to be completed by 7:00 AM.

The ITS department will be performing some maintenance work on several servers starting at 7:00 pm, Saturday, November 16, 2013. 

You will be happy to know that TitanConnect, INB, SSB, Blackboard, Exchange and the primary WWW site will remain online and available during this maintenance window.

Servers hosting college specific websites, TitanNet, Course Evaluations, Cascade, blogs, audio and video streaming will be down for 2 to 3 hours.

Update on ODS Refresh

The Refresh processes for the Operational Data Store (ODS) are currently running.  Student Accounting and Financial Aid are now up-to-date and Finance is close (except for Detail transactions). Admissions and Student will be next.  The processes have been running for about 3 hours and will likely take another 3 hours to complete.

The normal daily refresh will be scheduled to run tonight (actually 2:00 a.m. tomorrow) and the entire ODS should be up-to-date by tomorrow morning.

McNichols WIFI Restart Tonight

Throughout the evening, wireless access points on the McNichols campus will be rebooted to apply new settings to the configuration.  The new settings are being put in place to address the inability of certain devices to hold a connection to the WIFI network.  The reboots only take about a minute per device.  Most client devices will auto-switch to another access point while the one that they were on is resetarting.

TitanConnect Reporting Server Downtime

Our reporting server, the ODS/Discoverer, will be offline tomorrow from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a necessary system upgrade.

The ODS/Discoverer service will not be available for running reports during this time.

***UPDATE*** 10/22 - Solved. Dorms Internet – ISP Problem - Impact on Internet access performance Mon. 10/21


Our ISP has technical problems and we can’t deliver full capacity of Internet Bandwidth to Dorms at this time. While Internet is working, users will notice poor performance in Internet access. Resources related to University are not affected by this issue. Please limit your use of Internet to high importance; video streaming and Internet gaming use a lot of bandwidth and, in this condition, are not able to deliver.
ISP technical team is scheduled for tomorrow morning and we don’t expect improvement in service before that time.

We sorry for inconvenience this issue causes to our Dorm residents.

Dorms Internet - ISP technical problems 10/18 at 02:30 p.m.



Our ISP, providing Internet services for Dorms, is experiencing technical problems. These problems are reflecting on users as very short “hick-ups” in service.
Our system has automatic fail-over and users are getting Internet service. Automatic fail-over does not provide as much capacity as the main line though and, under circumstances, users may experience slower than usual response in their Internet use. According to our ISP, they expect to stabilize their service by 5 p.m. this afternoon.

TitanConnect Portal is currently experiencing a service disruption.  ITS is investigating and working to restore service.

Dorms network - Internet access problem - fixed 09/11 at 7:45 a.m.

Dorms network, both wired and wireless, due to hardware failure, lost Internet access around 1 a.m. last night. Failing part was replaced this morning and Internet access to dorms is restored in full.

Blackboard created set of software patches to resolve number of issues reported. As usual, that requires Blackboard services taken down for up to 60 minutes. Blackboard will be made available as soon as this operation finishes, but, please, don't plan on using Blackboard between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 9.
If you are using Blackboard on Monday morning, please close your session and log out before 7:30 a.m. to prevent loss of data.

SPSS licensing has been installed and the new renewal date is set for 7/31/14.  All expiration warnings should no longer display.

Blackboard service available - Aug 15 at 09:00 a.m.

ITS concluded migration of Blackboard system to the new hardware, and software maintenance at this point. Blackboard services are available. Blackboard software upgrade, performed during this operation, introduced some new functionality and may have slight appearance changes in certain areas.

New hardware platform should improve performance of the Blackboard system and provide additional capacity to cover projected future needs.
 
As usual, problems related to Blackboard services should be reported to IDS or submitted as an incident in our Help Desk ticket system. Always collect all the relevant information (time of incident, possible error messages, steps that lead to the problem) when you report problem with Blackboard system.

Starting at 7:00 am, network connectivity to and from the McNichols campus will be down until 11:00 am.  If the maintenance is completed in advance of 11:00 am, service may be restored earlier for you to use.

The university will be implementing new servers for some Enterprise systems this coming weekend.

Systems downtime is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2013 from approximately 7:00 a.m. - Noon.

The services affected will be:
  • E-mail
  • TitanConnect Portal
  • TitanConnect INB
  • TitanConnect Self Service
  • TitanConnect Groups/Calendars
The ODS/Discoverer and Knowledge/Blackboard will still be available, but must be accessed through direct links rather than through the Portal.

During this time any email sent to an @udmercy.edu address will be queued and delivered as soon as the systems are brought back on-line.

Internet access at all campuses will remain online and available, however access to the services listed above will not be available.

Once the systems are brought back on-line, the Users who have been accessing TitanConnect INB with a separate link should return to using the link from the TitanConnect Portal.

Your patience during this outage will be most appreciated and we will update this blog when the implementation is complete.

Dorms Internet access short interruption - resolved - May 8, 12:40 p.m.

Network equipment failure caused outage in Dorms Internet service, duration 20 minutes. University network access was not affected during this outage.

Internet Down All Campuses - ISP Issue - Dorms Up

At 6:10 pm, an internet outage was experienced that affects all three campuses except for the McNichols residence halls.  Earlier in the day, our ISP had reported working in the area to repair other issues.  Networking staff are working with our ISP to resolve this outage ASAP.

Services restored – Food Services, Energy Management System, Card ID system 04/15 at 6:00 p.m.

Rebuild of infrastructure supporting affected services was finished at 6:00 p.m. on Apr. 15.
Food Services systems has to be finished and brought up to date by software manufacturer; they are notified and they will bring Food Service computer support to the required level of service on their schedule.

Dorms Internet - Full service restored

Issue on Internet network is diagnosed and fixed; Internet service for Dorms was restored in full capacity at 2:30 p.m..

ISP service outage - Dorms service affected 04/12 1:19 p.m.

Comcast ISP service for dorms went down at 1:19 p.m. Our system automatically switched to backup line which has much lower capacity than standard service. As a result, users on Dorm network are experiencing slow Internet service. Traffic to University resources is not affected. ITS is working with Comcast to re-establish full service, but we don't have any reliable information at this time. Please limit your Internet usage to absolutely necessary at this time; don't attempt to use Internet gaming or video streaming.

System monitoring tools are showing the WIFI down on North Quad, Floor 3.  WIFI bleed from the 4th floor may adequately cover most (but not all) areas on the 3rd floor.  ITS will address as soon as possible.

ITS is investigating an issue that is preventing internet email from flowing into UDM.  Mail from @udmercy to @udmercy accounts appears to flow fine but outside communications to @udmercy does not.

Brief Internet Outage after 10:00 pm Tonight

Tonight, around 10:00 pm there may be a very brief one time five (5) minute internet outage that could impact your use of the internet.  Our Internet Service Provider is performing a quick update that will impact the majority of Universities and Colleges in the southeastern MI region.

 

Users on the McNichols, Corktown and Law campuses as well as those in clinics that route out to the internet through a campus connection may not be able to reach off-campus sites and, users off-campus may not be able to reach University hosted resources (such as TitanConnect, Blackboard, etc.) during this period of time.

 

Students living in residence will not be affected during this outage.

TC Maintenance - 03/07/2013 7:00 to 7:30 a.m.

On Friday March 7, 2013 between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. the TitanConnect (http://tc.udmercy.edu) web servers will be restarted.  During this maintenance window web based portal services will experience short periods of service disruption.

Dental School Network Issue

Network and Internet access on campus is currently operating very slowly. IT staff were onsite at the start of this and are working to resolve it ASAP.

Blackboard supplied us with the new software patches. We decided to apply these patches outside our regular maintenance window, Thursday March 7, starting at 7:30 a.m.
Anticipated time needed to accomplish this action is 30 minutes and Blackboard service won’t be available until 8:00 a.m.

TITANNET Servers

An environmental issue in the McNichols Server Room occured @ 12:20PM, which in turn took out part of the TITANNET Home & Group drive services.  We had to rebuild one server which may have affected your connectivity to these shared drives.  The domain is back up and stabilized.

If you notice a red X on your shared drive, you should be able to double-click on it and connectivity should be restored.  Otherwise you will need to reboot your workstation and log back on.

TitanConnect Mail Server Maintenance - 01/29/13

Please be advised that the TitanConnect email system will be temporarily down the morning of Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 6:00 am for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours while a necessary hardware upgrade is installed.

Email will continue to be received by the University and it will be delivered once the system is back up.  All other services including the portal, INB, SSB, Blackboard, etc. will continue to operate as they normally do.

Poor Dorms Internet Service - Resolved

Due to system malfunction, Internet users have experienced poor service starting 7:00 p.m. yesterday, Jan. 24.

Corrective action took place as soon as ITS got aware of this situation. Internet service to Dorms runs on full capacity and at standard quality level.

Quads North - we're seeing an outage a WIFI outage on one floor.  There may be enough bleed from the other floors to cover this area but signal strength will appear weaker than normal.  Until we can get this back online Monday, you'll need to use your wired connection.

Banner Database Upgrade Complete

The upgrade is now complete.  Access to TitanConnect INB and TitanConnect Self Service is now available.

The ITS department is performing a required upgrade on Saturday, January 19, 2013 that will require some (not all) systems to be down from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm.

Systems that will be down include only TitanConnect INB and TitanConnect Self Service.

Systems that will remain up include TitanConnect Portal, E-mail, Blackboard, WWW, TitanConnect Report Viewer, TitanConnect Report Writer, Cascade, TitanNet, Helpdesk, Facilityrequest.  On campus internet access will remain available during this time.

TitanConnect Maintenance - 01/09/2013 5:00 am to 8:00 am

Maintenance is scheduled for the TitanConnect calendaring server and one of the portal web servers for January 9, 2013 between 5:00 am and 8:00 am.  During this maintenance window TitanConnect calendaring will be unavailable.  All other TitanConnect services including portal, email, ssb, inb and Blackboard sso are expected to remain in service.

Hotmail, MSN Mail (now working again)

We are currently seeing a problem sending Email to Microsoft's Hotmail.com and MSN.com  .  We're investigating to see if we're being blocked or if there is another issue.

Mail started delivering again at about 2:45.  All queued up messages should be delivered now, both inbound and outbound.
