Connectivity Issue at 10am and 2pm

We appear to be experiencing issues for 30 minutes around 10 am and 2 pm for the past two days.  Operations are back to normal at the moment but we anticipate an issue which we will be investigating starting around 2 pm.  Hang in there while we work to determine the source of the problem.

The TC mail server is experiencing a heavy load which is causing all e-mail clients to time out or respond slowly. We are currently working to resolve the issue.

Student E-mail - Changes

On Friday, ITS retired the legacy system. If you married your accounts together, your e-mail sent to your account will be redirected to your account. If you didn't marry your accounts, then your messages to you are being rejected since your old account no longer exists.

If you didn't forward/redirect your e-mail from the old system to the new system prior to the retirement, we regret but access to do this is no longer available. For four months instructions and readily available Helpdesk support to answer related questions was available.

The TitanConnect e-mail solution has much to offer. Please visit and look into the documentation section for more information on the new e-mail system.

Voice-Mail, Res Life, CHP/Lansing Reilly Access Issues

Coincidental to the core switch replacement, there appears to be an infrastructure issue with 2 of 3 pairs of Fiber to that end of campus. A temporary workaround is in place and a repair crew has been called out to assess the situation for a more permanent fix. This accounts for issues related to voice mail, CHP and Lansing Reilly.

The resident halls are still down as a result of the core network switch and will shortly be addressed. It is expected by about 2:00 pm before the work is complete. Gradually, buildings will come online prior to that time. Users may need to reboot their computer to establish a good connection.

Update on Core Network Switch Replacement

Due to building access issues, the work on the switch was delay an hour. Access to the network is up in some but not all areas at this time. Everything has gone well and it will only be a short-time before you should be able to get to the network.

All core network services -TC, TitanNet, email, internet are up and running for buildings with access.

Reminder - Scheduled Network Down - Core Network Switch Replacement

Just a quick reminder that all internet and cross network services will be down from approximately 4:00 am to 8:00 am while a new core network switch is installed.  Your patience during this time is most appreciated.  The core network switch is the primary device that moves packets between networks on campus as well as to the internet via a router.  A biologist may think of the core network switch as the heart of the network.

Helpdesk systems are scheduled for regular maintenance on Tuesday, 03/09. Services affected are Helpdesk (ITS) and Facility Request (Facilities). Service is going to be suspended at 7:30 p.m. Expected service outage time is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Spring Break IT Information

A few noteworthy items regarding Information Technology Services during the UDM Spring Break period of March 8-13.



The Student Union lab will be open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.  Other labs may be opened for overflow,  if necessary.



The ITS-Helpdesk will be open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday and will be open for drop-in, email, phone or online support.



The ITS-AV office will be open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. E-mail

As previously announced the legacy e-mail system will be retired on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 12:00 pm.  If you do not already have and use your new TitanConnect e-mail account, you take some time to explore and learn this new solution.  Regular users of web-based e-mail systems may find it identical to most major hosted e-mail solutions.  Any student who wishes to retain their e-mail address, should complete the marrying process before March 12, 2010 at 12:00 pm.  For more information on marring accounts, see  For documentation on using the new e-mail system, see


After March 12, 2010, new student listserv groups will be established for active and inactive students.


TitanConnect E-Mail Maintenance Window – Monday of Spring Break Week

Beginning Monday, March 8, 2010 at 6:30 am and ending by 8:00 am, TitanConnect e-mail will be temporarily unavailable while the ITS-Enterprise team perform a number of maintenance tasks.  The rest of the TitanConnect portal will be available for use during this period of time.


Core Network Maintenance Window - Wednesday of Spring Break Week

Beginning Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 4:00 am and ending by 8:00 am, the entire McNichols network and internet access across all campuses will be temporarily down while ITS-Networking installs a new core network switch.  Access within the Dental campus to Dental resources will not be impacted as is true with Law Campus computers and Law Campus resources.
