Microsoft

Microsoft Teams service alert

Incident information

Title: Some users may have been intermittently unable to join calls or meetings through Microsoft Teams.
ID: TM218102

Status

Service Restored

Details

Title: Some users may have been intermittently unable to join calls or meetings through Microsoft Teams.

User Impact: Users may have been intermittently unable to join calls or meetings through Microsoft Teams.

More info: A small number of users attempting to create Teams live events may have also been impacted, though subsequent attempts would have been successful.

Final status: We've determined that a recently implemented throttling limit that was put in place to prevent bursts in unexpected meeting joins, inadvertently throttled expected traffic that occurred around 2:00 PM UTC. We've removed the throttling rule and confirmed that the service is healthy after monitoring the environment.

Scope of impact: Impact was specific to a subset of users from the North America region. The most significant impact occurred around 2:00 PM UTC.

Start time: Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 1:45 PM UTC

End time: Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 2:30 PM UTC

Root cause: A recently introduced throttling threshold had been reached, resulting in impact to additional requests.

Next steps:

- We're reviewing our throttling procedures to find ways to prevent this problem from happening again.

- We're reviewing our monitoring services to look for ways to reduce detection time and more quickly restore service.

This is the final update for the event.

Thank you,
The Microsoft team
